A patient who understands what is happening in their body recovers better. We see this every day in consultations, and it is also documented: worry and a lack of understanding are among the factors that do most to prolong pain.
Yet the information available on these subjects often swings between two extremes. On one side, alarmist articles that turn ordinary wear and tear into a catastrophe. On the other, vague promises propped up by vocabulary that sounds appealing but is hollow.
Here we write what we explain at the clinic, with the same concern for precision. When something has been proven, we say so. When it is a useful model or a hypothesis, we say that too. You have the right to know what the care you are offered is based on.
These articles do not replace a consultation, either with us or with your doctor. They give you what you need to ask the right questions, and to recognise the situations that call for a professional opinion without delay.
