The founder
Hosam ASSAL
Osteopath (French Diploma in Osteopathy, D.O.) in Paris 8 and Vitry-sur-Seine, founder of the ASSAL Method. Trainer of osteopaths and speaker on occupational health.

“I chose this profession because of a promise. To find the cause of a problem, not just treat its symptoms. To treat with my hands, without surgery and without medication. That is the philosophy Andrew Taylor Still laid down at the birth of osteopathy, and it is what brought me into the profession.”
What led me here
Understanding how things work
Passionate about the human body since childhood, I have always needed to understand how things work. Being very hands-on, I applied that curiosity to people. I wanted the body to keep its autonomy, because I deeply believe it knows how to regulate itself once it is given the nudge it needs. Much like a clock that only needs its cogs put back in place.
I still remember a pharmacist who taught at the faculty of medicine telling me one day that the body copes badly with having too many chemical molecules put into it, and that it does everything it can to get rid of them. Those words struck a chord. I looked for another way to help the body, one that respects its logic.
With a passion for anticipating and planning ahead, I have always been drawn to preventive health. These are the two principles I wanted to build a career on: working with my hands, preventing problems before they appear, and helping to improve people’s overall health.
All that remained was to find out which one. A friend of my father’s lent me a book on osteopathy. That was when it clicked.
How the method began
A philosophy without a manual
I was taught to rule out serious conditions and to refer patients to a doctor when necessary. I do all of that, and I will go on doing it. But when it came to finding the origin of a functional problem in a patient, I was handed a philosophy and left to work out the method myself. Each practitioner was navigating alone, with only their own experience as a compass.
This frustrated me. I could see the result in my consultations. Patients coming back every two weeks. Pain that kept returning. And no one to explain to them why. That was not the promise I had been made.
So I searched. Not for a new osteopathy. For a thread. A logic for tracing back, in each patient, to the real origin of their functional problems, which often lies far from where it hurts. Over the years, patient after patient, it became a reproducible method. I called it the ASSAL Method. It relies on a test I developed, the ASSAL test. Of all the areas under tension, it looks for the one that came first.
My practice
Practise, teach, prevent
I practise this method in my two clinics, in Paris 8 since 2013 and in Vitry-sur-Seine since 2017.
I pass it on through private training to final-year students, recent graduates and manual therapy practitioners (osteopaths, physiotherapists and chiropractors), who come looking for what I was missing when I started out. Since 2025, I have also been working as a posture and manual handling trainer in companies, and with doctors and dentists, two professions particularly exposed to postural strain.
What the method brings can be summed up in a few words. The methodological clarity that lets this philosophy truly be passed on, from one practitioner to the next.
For you as a patient, this changes three things. You understand where your pain comes from. You see for yourself, thanks to the ASSAL test, what shifts during the session. And the relief lasts, because the cause has been treated.
If you are still looking for an explanation for pain that nothing has resolved, this method is meant precisely for you.
